The India desk at K&L Gates was established in 2008 by a handful of lawyers with experience of working in the country. The practice has grown considerably in the intervening years, and is today made up of 29 lawyers who together exemplify the geographical spread and diversity of practice offered by the firm as a whole. The group is co-chaired by Seattle’s Pallavi Mehta Wahi, who is known for her complex corporate and IP litigation work, and London’s John Magnin, whose practice focuses on litigation as well as arbitration and alternative dispute resolution. The group assists both Indian and international clients doing business across India’s borders, including M&A deals, joint ventures, financings, fund formation and trade deals, offering assistance with IP, tax, employment and contentious issues.
Recent engagements include representing India’s Core Projects & Technologies in its first UK acquisition of ITNMark Education, a UK company in the teaching supply business; representing Par Pharmaceutical in its purchase of all of the outstanding shares of Edict Pharmaceuticals, a generic pharmaceutical company located in Tamil Nadu; and acting for Global Indian Schools in disputes in Dubai, the US, British Virgin Islands and Hong Kong. The firm has also acted for numerous banks and financial institutions, loan organisations, outsourcing companies, pharmaceutical concerns and EPC contractors in India-related matters over the past year.
