One of Singapore’s premier law firms, Rajah & Tann has maintained a dedicated India practice since 2005 and counts Fortis Healthcare, Religare group, Punj Lloyd, The Minerals & Metals Trading Corporation of India, Infosys and Biocon among its prominent clients. Since 2010 it has been involved in a significant number of international arbitrations, with a total value of approximately $1 billion, despite the loss of South Asia practice head and India arbitration specialist Prakash Pillai to Clyde & Co last year.
Himself an arbitration and litigation specialist, Chandra Mohan Rethnam leads the four-lawyer team and is known for his work in professional negligence claims and shareholder, employment and property disputes. In the past year he took the lead in the firm’s work for Nimbus Sport International in arbitration proceedings against the Bangladesh Cricket Board in relation to a $30 million dispute arising from a marketing agency agreement.
The team also acted for Great Ship Global Offshore Services, Goodearth Maritime and Hind Offshore in disputes, as well as representing Pearson (Singapore) in the acquisition of shares in Educomp Higher Initiatives, and acting for Hydreq (part of the Equis Funds Group) in its equity investment of 1.2 billion rupees in Gurgaon-based renewables technology company DANS Energy Consulting.
