In little more than a decade, DSK Legal has expanded from a team of seven to well over 100 lawyers, with bases in three major commercial centres in the country. The firm’s relatively brief lifespan has also seen it forge and dissolve links to an international network, via the now-defunct full-service firm Anderson Legal, several years before the “best friends” trend of the latter half of the decade. Today DSK remains a standalone firm without any formalalliances, while still handling a large amount of high-profile international work.

Founder and managing partner Anand Desai is the firm’s most prominent name, recommended by peers around the world for his work in the real estate and communications sectors. Sources praised his corporate transactional and regulatory expertise in particular.

Notable recent corporate transactions include representing Strides Arcolab Limited and its subsidiaries in connection with the sale of its injectable business to Mylan Inc and its Indian subsidiaries for $1.6 billion, and a potential additional consideration of up to $250 million subject to closing; Asian Paints’ investment in kitchen solutions provider Sleek Group  for 1.2 billion rupees; SH Kelkar & Co in connection with the secondary sale of its shares from Wayzata II  Indian Ocean to Blackstone entities in Singapore for approximately 2 billion rupees; and Fractal Analytics in relation to the sale of its minority stake to TA Associates for $25 million.

In the media and entertainment space, the firm regularly represents the celebrity and talent management agency Matrix IEC, which handles leading artists like Salman Khan, Aamir Khan and Katrina Kaif. The team has also acted for Walt Disney India, UTV Software Communications, and Aamir Khan Productions with respect to drafting, negotiating and revising a variety of agreements including for endorsements, film production, talent, acquisition and exploitation of intellectual property rights, and general advice.

In its commercial litigation and dispute resolution practice, notable matters include representing a telecom company with respect to its business disputes; a well-known film personality in relation to proceedings filed against him; a leading real estate company in connection with various disputes pertaining to acquisition of land; a private equity fund with respect to its exit from a current investment in a company in the real estate sector; and Prime Broking
Company (India) in respect of various disputes.
