One of India’s oldest surviving law firms with a strong claim for being one of the world’s longest-standing providers of IP advice, Remfry & Sagar is as prolific and well-regarded as ever as it approaches its 200th anniversary. An overwhelmingly international clientele, including numerous household names, attests to the firm’s presence on the world stage – a presence that has been further cemented in recent years by the firm’s activity as a founding member of the BRIC IP Forum.
The firm has long associations with blue chips such as Sony, Honeywell, Procter & Gamble, Qualcomm, Porsche, Monsanto, Exxon, American Express, and 3M, with a particularly loyal client base among pharma majors like Pfizer, Bayer, Les Laboratoires Servier, Bristol Myers-Squibb, Sanofi, Boehringer, AstraZeneca and Biofarma.
More recent additions to the client list include Samsung, Johnson & Johnson, P&G, Panasonic and ZTE in patent matters; NBTY, Apollo Tyres, Grupo Televisa and Henkel on the trademarks side; and Boettcher GmbH and Movado Group in corporate matters.
Remfry & Sagar recently went to court on behalf of Mast-Jägermeister in a trademark dispute with the Tamil Nadu Police, which was using Jägermeister insignia without authorisation for publicity materials related to drink driving. The matter concluded with the firm successfully arguing for the removal of the Jägermeister brand from the materials before the Madras High Court.
