Mr Shardul Thacker has an extensive arbitration, maritime, insurance and reinsurance, corporate and banking law practice.
He has handled over 50 arbitration matters under the LCIA, ICC, UNCITRAL, SIAC and ICA Rules, relating to charterparty, shipbuilding, EPC, oil and gas exploration, cryogenic gas contracts.
He has extensive knowledge of the oil and gas and offshore industry and acts for various Indian and international rig and ship owners in relation to tenders, contracts and arbitration matters against ONGC.
In ship finance practice, he acts as Indian counsel to most international lenders, who lend into the India market to India ship/rig owners.
In addition to being a fellow of the SIAC, an arbitrator on the panel of the Construction Industry Development Counsel of India and a member of the arbitration committee of the IBA, he has presented papers at the IBA and other international conferences.
He has contributed the India chapters in: Euromoney’s banking yearbooks, Shipping Finance Annual; Law Business Research’s Banking Regulation Review (2011) and International Arbitration Review (2011); Norton Rose on Cross-Border Security (published by Butterworths); and Maritime Law Handbook (published by Kluwer Law). He is also the India correspondent for Lloyd’s Maritime & Commercial Quarterly.
His recent accolades include being named as a leading lawyer in the banking and finance, and shipping chapters of Chambers Asia Pacific (2012) and a leader in his field for banking and finance by Chambers Asia (2012). He is also ranked in The International Who’s Who of Banking Lawyers 2012 and Who’s Who Legal: Arbitration, for India (published by Global Arbitration Review (2012)). He won a Leading Lawyer Award from Asia Law for shipping and maritime 2003–2012 and Leading Lawyer Award from Asia Law for dispute resolutions 2003-2012.
