Darius Kakalia commenced his practice in 1973 as a commercial lawyer. Today he has an extensive transaction and litigation practice with expertise in corporate general commercial matters, setting up of joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions, ADRs and GDRs as well as real estate transactions and litigations and dispute resolution.
Mr Kakalia specialises in litigations in the energy sector and projects. He has acted for large leading players in the industry such as Reliance Energy, and has advised consortiums for the bids with respect to the 4,000MW ultra mega power projects proposed by the Power Corporation of India.
With extensive experience in the energy sector, he has extensively advised BSES Ltd in respect to setting up its 2x250MV project at Dahanu and the power project of Maharashtra Energy Generation Ltd at Shahpur.
Appearing regularly before the MERC, the Bombay High Court and in the Supreme Court of India in litigations relating to disputes in the energy sector, Mr Kakalia is a director of several reputed companies including Aditya Birla Finance Co Ltd, Brics Securities Ltd, Reliance Broadcasting Network Ltd.
He is a former law professor at KC Law College, University of Mumbai, and has also been appointed as an examiner by the University of Mumbai.
Mr Darius Kakalia has obtained degrees in commerce (BCom) and law (LLB) from the University of Mumbai. He enrolled as a solicitor with Incorporated Law Society, Mumbai in 1976, and was admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of England in 1982.
